Create The Perfect Ambiance For Your 50S-Themed Barbecue

Posted on

Barbecues offer an excellent opportunity for friends and family to get together and catch up on each others' busy lives. Creating a 1950s theme for your barbecue will increase the excitement factor and provide guests with a unique memory that is sure to last a lifetime. In addition to putting a 1950s inspired soundtrack on in the background and serving up old-time favorites such as deviled eggs with the barbecued meat, here are a few things you can do to create the perfect ambiance for your 50s-themed barbecue:

Incorporate Vintage Lighting

An excellent way to give your barbecue area an old-school feel is to replace any exterior light fixtures located near the area with metal or wooden vintage fixtures to make them look like lanterns. You can incorporate even more lighting with the help of vintage solar gardens lights that can be staked into the ground around the barbecue area. If your gathering space is surrounded by trees, consider hanging strings of vintage lights on their branches to brighten things up when the sun starts to go down.

Add Some Depth and Comfort

Add a little extra depth, comfort, and ambiance to your 50s-themed barbecue by covering some old throw pillows with clothing from the era and placing them in the chairs in your barbecue area. There are a variety of interesting material types to choose from such as:

  • Floral Prints

  • Western Motifs

  • Rayon

  • Wool

  • Silk Nylon

Go to thrift stores and look for old sweaters, t-shirts, pants, dresses, and blankets that can be used to cover your old throw pillows. Either stuff the pillows in the shirts and dresses and then tie the ends closed, or cut the clothing seams open so you can sew the edges closed after wrapping it over your pillows.

Create a Centerpiece for the Food Table

Set up a large tray in the center of the barbecue food table and create a centerpiece by putting vintage items such as old ketchup containers, restaurant menus, and napkin rings on it. The items you feature should have been produced in the 1950s or earlier if possible to make your centerpiece authentic. This will also help differentiate the items in your centerpiece from the things people will actually be using at the barbecue so nothing of value ends up getting ruined.

These tips and tricks should make it easy for you to create a 50s-themed barbecue that takes everyone back in time and provides them with enjoyable memories to take home.
